Fokker Services has established a proven and competitive solution for Dash 8/Q-Series 100/200/300 aircraft and we are committed to further developing the program to enable operators of Bombardier aircraft to better manage the life-cycle cost of their aircraft,” said Jan Ynse Miedema, Vice President Bombardier programs, Fokker Services.

Agreement between Bombardier and COMAC

Postby sn26567 on 22 Mar 2012, 11:24

COMAC and Bombardier Sign Definitive Agreement to Establish Commonality Opportunities Between C919 and CSeries Aircraft

Further to the framework agreement signed on March 24, 2011, Jin Zhuanglong, Chairman, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd (COMAC) and Pierre Beaudoin, President and Chief Executive Officer, Bombardier Inc. signed today a definitive agreement covering program commonalities between the C919 and CSeries aircraft. More specifically, the two leading aircraft manufacturers have agreed to cooperate on four distinctive projects to be executed as part of the first phase of COMAC and Bombardier’s long-term collaboration on the C919 aircraft and the CSeries families of commercial airliners.

The four initiatives on which COMAC and Bombardier will be collaborating as part of this initial phase are commonality on: 1) the cockpit human-machine (crew) interfaces, 2) the electrical system, 3) the development of aluminum-lithium standards and specifications, and 4) areas of customer services in terms of technical publications and co-location of teams. All four projects are expected to be completed over the next 12 months and in conjunction with the C919 aircraft development schedule.

This first collaborative phase further reinforces the strategic long-term relationship between COMAC and Bombardier and demonstrates the complementary nature of the C919 and CSeries aircraft programs. Both parties will continue exploring other possibilities for cooperation with regards to aircraft program commonalities, joint procurement, synergies in development and customer services, as well as collaboration on Bombardier and COMAC programs.

“I am delighted that, leveraging on our corporations’ mutual strengths, synergies are being developed into mutually beneficial, tangible initiatives. This will certainly contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of not only the C919 and CSeries aircraft programs, but also of COMAC and Bombardier’s overall businesses,” said Mr. Jin, Chairman, COMAC.

I am pleased to see the framework agreement signed in March last year reaching this important milestone,” said Mr. Beaudoin, President and Chief Executive Officer, Bombardier Inc. “We are confident these four initial projects will build on the complementary nature of our respective products and expertise while helping to maximize both parties’ cost savings and market shares.”

By signing this definitive agreement, Bombardier and COMAC are embarking on a first step to create opportunities for customers of the CSeries and C919 aircraft to realize cost benefits from the operation of both aircraft families.

RwandAir makes a firm order for 2 Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft

Postby sn26567 on 19 Mar 2012, 18:47

RwandAir makes a firm order for two Bombardier CRJ900 NextGen aircraft
Delivery for both aircraft expected in October 2012. Transaction includes options on two additional CRJ900 NextGen regional jets.

RwandAir announced today that it has placed a firm order for two CRJ900 NextGen regional jets with Bombardier Aerospace. The transaction also includes options on two additional CRJ900 NextGen aircraft. RwandAir will become the first operator of CRJ900 aircraft in Eastern Africa.

Based on the list price of the CRJ900 NextGen airliner, the firm-order contract is valued at approximately $89 million US. The value of the contract would increase to $185 million US should both options be exercised.

Our two 50-seat CRJ200 aircraft have performed very well for us and have helped grow our business to the point that we require aircraft with more capacity, said John Mirenge, Chief Executive Officer, RwandAir. Based on our experience with the CRJ200 aircraft, the dual-class 75-seat CRJ900 NextGen aircraft was the logical upgrade. CRJ900 NextGen aircraft also provide exceptional reliability and have much in common with other CRJ aircraft. These aircraft will be configured to have 7 business class seats and 68 economy class seats.

Other key factors that contributed to our decision to choose the CRJ900 NextGen aircraft are Bombardier’s customer support offering and cooperation in further developing RwandAir’s technical capacity, added Mr. Mirenge. In the CRJ900 NextGen regional jet, RwandAir will have an aircraft with the best economics in its class, said Mike Arcamone, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. The aircraft is of the ideal size to allow the airline to connect its regional markets that have become too large for smaller aircraft, but too small for RwandAir’s larger jets to serve efficiently.

Operating from Kigali as its hub, RwandAir’s fleet includes two Boeing 737-800NG, two Boeing 737-500, and a Dash8-200. The carrier serves most East African Community capital cities with daily flights and it flies to Johannesburg, Brazzaville, Libreville and Dubai.

There are currently more than 200 Bombardier regional jet and turboprop aircraft in service with, or on firm order from, approximately 50 operators in the Middle East and Africa. Bombardier’s Commercial Aircraft Market Forecast for the period 2011-2030 projects that the fleet of Bombardier commercial aircraft in the Middle East and Africa will continue to grow, forecasting deliveries of 980 aircraft, or seven per cent of the worldwide total of 13,000 units in the 20- to 149-seat market segments during that period.

Including the order from RwandAir, Bombardier has recorded firm orders for 1,711 CRJ Series aircraft (including 268 CRJ900 and CRJ900 NextGen aircraft), with 1,661 aircraft delivered as of December 31, 2011.

Based on the list price of the CRJ1000 NextGen aircraft, the airline’s firm order is valued at approximately $297 million US and could increase to approximately $1.32 billion US should all 18 options be exercised.

The CRJ1000 NextGen aircraft continues to perform beyond expectations with its current operators, and we are thrilled to welcome another customer,” said Mike Arcamone, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “The CRJ1000 NextGen aircraft is achieving the lowest seat mile cost in its market segment; delivering exceptional reliability; and contributing to more sustainable aviation with its reduced environmental footprint.”

Worldwide, CRJ Series aircraft are in service with more than 60 airlines and have logged more than 31 million flight hours and 26 million take-off and landing cycles. In addition to airline operations, more than 30 customers operate corporate variants of CRJ Series aircraft.

Including the order announced today, Bombardier has recorded firm orders for 1,715 CRJ Series aircraft, with 1,661 delivered as of December 31, 2011.
