Airbus is displaying an ACJ319 at EBACE

Postby sn26567 on 10 May 2012, 15:15

Features widest and tallest cabin of any business jet

Airbus is again exhibiting an ACJ319 at the EBACE show in Geneva, giving visitors the opportunity to see how the widest and tallest corporate jet cabin fits into the same ramp space as traditional business jets.

The Airbus ACJ319 is the newest in the Comlux fleet, is being exhibited for the first time, and features a cabin by Comlux America. It is certificated to carry 19 passengers, and features lounge areas, club seating and two private rooms that convert to bedrooms, one of which has an ensuite bathroom.

More than 15 Airbus corporate jets are offered for VVIP charter worldwide by almost 15 companies, highlighting their popular appeal.

Exhibiting an Airbus corporate jet alongside traditional offerings from other manufacturers allows potential customers to see and touch what we have to offer, which is quite simply the best cabin in the sky,” comments Airbus COO, Customers, John Leahy. “Airbus corporate jet cabins offer more where it counts, in comfort, space and freedom of movement,” he adds.

With extra fuel-tanks for intercontinental range, the Airbus ACJ319 can fly nonstop from Europe to much of Africa, the Americas and Asia, and one-stop to most of the world.

Airbus corporate jets are derived from the world’s most modern aircraft family, delivering benefits such as fuel-efficiency, reliability and ease of maintenance.

These benefits are enhanced by regular product improvements, which enable them to maintain their competitive edge over time.

Airbus corporate jets have won some 170 orders since the company delivered its first corporate jet in the mid-Eighties, and are the only bizjets flying on every continent, including Antarctica.

SWISS to operate own Airbus A340s on its Zurich-Newark route

Postby sn26567 on 30 Mar 2012, 18:55

SWISS will be providing daily non-stop service between Zurich and Newark (for New York) using its own Airbus A340-300 equipment from 31 March. The new arrangement provides a total of 219 seats per flight in a three-class cabin configuration. SWISS thus now offers three daily non-stop connections between Zurich and New York.

By introducing its own Airbus A340-300 equipment for its Newark services, SWISS is increasing capacity by some 33% on its Zurich-New York route. The Newark flights concerned have also been rescheduled to improve connections to and from several other European markets via SWISS’s Zurich hub.

Flight LX 018 now leaves Zurich daily (instead of six times a week) at 17:30 and arrives in Newark at 20:20. Newark Airport is conveniently located for Southern Manhattan or destinations in New Jersey. The eastbound service departs from Newark at 22:00, enabling both business and leisure travellers to spend the whole day in New York before their air travel, and arrives in Zurich at 11:30 the following day.

Newark Airport also features a new departure gate with a more comfortable lounge for the use of SWISS First, HON Circle and SWISS Business customers prior to their departure. With its newly modified Newark service, SWISS now offers three daily non-stop flights between Zurich and New York: one to Newark and two to JFK.

SWISS is the only airline in Europe to provide a three-class product with an Economy, Business and First Class cabin on all its intercontinental flights. The advanced Business Class offers optimum sleeping comfort aloft: the two-metre-long bed is fully reclinable and also boasts an integrated massage function. As well as over 200 passengers, the SWISS Airbus A340-300 can carry some 18 tonnes of cargo per flight.

Atlantic Airways takes delivery of its new Airbus A319

Postby sn26567 on 23 Mar 2012, 12:36

Aircraft to boost travel to and from Faroe Islands

Atlantic Airways, the national carrier of the Faroe Islands has taken delivery of its Airbus A319 as part of its plan to increase its capacity, becoming Airbus’ newest operator, equipped with CFM engines.

The aircraft is configured in a single economy class layout with 144 seats. All passengers will benefit from state-of-art mood lighting and drop-down screens throughout the cabin. It will be deployed on route from Faroe Islands to Copenhagen, Denmark.

The aircraft will operate at Vágar Airport, which is known for having poor visibility due to extreme weather conditions. To ease approach procedures into Vágar Airport, Atlantic Airways has chosen Quovadis for flight operations consultancy services to design the first European Required Navigation Performance - Authorisation Required (RNP-AR) procedures. RNP-AR represents the most modern navigation technique, allowing the aircraft to fly precisely along a predefined route using on-board navigation systems and the GPS-based ‘Global Navigation Satellite System’ (GNSS).

Magni Arge, Chief Executive of Atlantic Airways, said: “We selected the A319 as our future platform having evaluated various alternatives. To provide us with optimal performance and range we have chosen the most powerful CFM engines for the aircraft. This one aircraft contract, even if small in size will have a significant input on our islands’ tourism and trade. We are proud to present Atlantic Airways` brand-new Airbus A319 on the occasion of its 24th birthday”.

"We are pleased to welcome Atlantic Airways as a new Airbus operator," said John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer, Customers, Airbus. “We congratulate Atlantic Airways on this first Airbus aircraft delivery and we are confident the airline will benefit from the proven reliability, outstanding and unbeatable low operating costs the industry’s best-selling single aisle product line offers."

The A320 Family, which includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321, is recognised as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family. More than 8,300 Airbus A320 Family aircraft have been sold to more than 350 customers and operators worldwide, making it the world’s best selling commercial jetliner ever. With proven reliability and extended servicing periods, the A320 Family has the lowest operating costs of any single aisle aircraft. Uniquely, the A320 Family offers a containerized cargo system, which is compatible with the worldwide standard wide-body system.

Boeing, Airbus & Embraer to Collaborate on Aviation Biofuel

Postby sn26567 on 22 Mar 2012, 13:25

Boeing, Airbus and Embraer to Collaborate on Aviation Biofuel Commercialization
Accelerating Availability is Key Pillar of Industry's Sustainable Growth Strategy

Boeing, Airbus and Embraer today signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on the development of drop-in, affordable aviation biofuels. The three leading airframe manufacturers agreed to seek collaborative opportunities to speak in unity to government, biofuel producers and other key stakeholders to support, promote and accelerate the availability of sustainable new jet fuel sources.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Jim Albaugh, Airbus President and CEO Tom Enders, and Embraer Commercial Aviation President Paulo Cesar Silva, signed the agreement at the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) Aviation and Environment Summit in Geneva.

"There are times to compete and there are times to cooperate," said Jim Albaugh. "Two of the biggest threats to our industry are the price of oil and the impact of commercial air travel on our environment. By working with Airbus and Embraer on sustainable biofuels, we can accelerate their availability and reduce our industry's impacts on the planet we share."

"We've achieved a lot in the last ten years in reducing our industry's CO2 footprint - a 45 percent traffic growth with only three percent more fuel consumption," said Tom Enders. "The production and use of sustainable quantities of aviation biofuels is key to meeting our industry's ambitious CO2 reduction targets and we are helping to do this through Research and Technology our expanding network of worldwide value chains and supporting the EU commission towards its target of four percent of biofuel for aviation by 2020."

"We are all committed to take a leading role in the development of technology programs that will facilitate aviation biofuels development and actual application faster than if we were doing it independently," said Paulo Cesar Silva. "Few people know that Brazil's well known automotive biofuels program started within our aeronautical research community, back in the seventies, and we will keep on making history."

The collaboration agreement supports the industry's multi-pronged approach to continuously reduce the industry's carbon emissions. Continuous innovation, spurred by competitive market dynamics that push each manufacturer to continuously improve product performance, and air traffic modernization, are other critical elements to achieving carbon-neutral growth beyond 2020 and halving industry emissions by 2050 based on 2005 levels.

"Having these three aviation leaders set aside their competitive differences and work together in support of biofuel development, underscores the importance and focus the industry is placing on sustainable practices," said ATAG Executive Director Paul Steele. "Through these types of broad industry collaboration agreements, aviation is doing all it can to drive measurable reductions in carbon emissions, while continuing to provide strong global economic and social value."

All three companies are affiliate members of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Users Group (www.safug.org), which includes 23 leading airlines responsible for approximately 25 percent of annual aviation fuel use. Boeing and Embraer are already collaborating on how to establish a sustainable aviation biofuels industry in Brazil and exploring new technology pathways to broaden biofuel sourcing and availability. Boeing and Airbus are also active around the globe in helping to establish regional supply chains, while the three manufacturers have all supported numerous biofuel flights since global fuel standards bodies granted their approval for commercial use in 2011.
